Motion Control

Take one glamorous and aging dancer. Trap her in the real world. Smash into her private reality. Control her movement, contain her emotion. Well, you can try but she has already beaten you to it. With hyper-sound and super smart awareness, submit to this bizarre journey of entrapment.

Motion Control was made for BBC/Arts Council Dance for Camera Award 2000/2001 by liz aggiss, Billy Cowie and David Anderson. Motion Control (8mins 30’) examines the synergy and dynamic partnership between camera and performer. Shot on 35mm, it explores from the camera POV, a bizarre journey of entrapment and is notable for hyper-sound Foley overlaid with text and electro-opera.

Motion Control features on Take 7 distributed by south East Dance and Forward Motion The British Council Leading British Screen Dance www.britishcouncil.org/forwardmotion

Reviews
A superb abstraction and exploration of qualities at the heart of Cowie and Aggiss’ work
Tanzfilm – Ballet International

The electric movements of the dancer and choreographer liz aggiss converted into a true audio-visual feast of widely ranging emotions. A superb cinematic experiment that starts out from the conventions of video-dance but manages to go beyond them through an intelligent use of editing, colour, sound and music.
