Break
Choreography/Direction liz aggiss and Billy Cowie

Performed by Thomas Kampe

In the wilderness of Dungeness, where the natural and the nuclear meet for small talk, Master Thomas is taking the air. As he rambles he spies something unusual and decides to investigate.

Break (from the Middle English) 1. an interruption of continuity. 2. a short period of recreation or refreshment. 3. a tract of ground of distinct appearance. 4. an opportunity, a chance.

Break (4mins 45’) is a Channel 4 and Arts Council England commission for the 4Dance series produced in 2006. It was shot using 10 High Definition cameras placed in a 360-degree circle. An animated pictorial palette of multiple camera angles was developed during the editing process. Break attends not only to technology and experimentation but the demands that are imposed on the audience to consider new dialogues about the dance screen body.
